Number 1 seed and two time Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray (GBR) has made it to the quarter finals an impressive 9 times. Today he made it 10 beating Benoit Paire (FRA) who was into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time. After a tight first set featuring 4 breaks of serve, the Frenchman forced a tie break with the world number 1, but played a howler of a tie break getting just one point. Number 1 seed Andy Murray (GBR) faced 28th seed Fabio Fognini (ITA), both of whom are known to have the occasional outburst on court. Murray raced to a 1 set lead 6-2 only for the momentum to swing the Italian’s way in the second, taking it 6-4. Carlos Moya has revealed the secrets behind Nadal’s recent improvements and comeback from injury.
Forehand has been adapted to “get more speed through the court”. Work on improvements in the Nadal backhand has been fairly evident as he takes more outside in backhands over inside out forehands. And “a lot of work on the serve”.
Nadal is also carrying more lead tape in the head of the racquet giving much increased power potential. Additionally, nutrition and dietary changes have been made to build even more muscle to help in reducing injuries.
In the day’s controversial match, Next Gen star Daniil Medvedev (RUS) who knocked out 5th seed Wawrinka in the first round, lost his cool in a tense 5 set contest on the non-Hawk-Eye outer courts. His opponent, world number 124 Ruben Bemelmans (BEL), was the benefactor of 5 chair umpire overrules in quick succession, leaving Medvedev questioning the integrity of the chair and calling for her replacement.
