In the semi-final of the big servers, 7th seed Marin Cilic (CRO) took on 24th seed Sam Querrey (USA). Both players having such huge serves meant it was going to be about which man returned better. Number 1 seed Andy Murray (GBR) was knocked out by the big serving 24th seed Sam Querrey (USA). Murray came into the tournament with a niggling hip injury and it became a full blown issue in the quarter final. After a shaky start from the American, Murray took the first set 6-3, but Querrey played an excellent second set to make it level 6-4. Number 1 seed and two time Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray (GBR) has made it to the quarter finals an impressive 9 times. Today he made it 10 beating Benoit Paire (FRA) who was into the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time. After a tight first set featuring 4 breaks of serve, the Frenchman forced a tie break with the world number 1, but played a howler of a tie break getting just one point. 2nd seed Novak Djokovic (SRB) got over an early lapse in concentration to beat Ernests Gulbis (LAT) in straight sets 6-4 6-1 7-6. At the beginning of the match Djokovic felt aggrieved after being denied a challenge by the chair, and the very next point he needed the challenge again, this time getting it, and it going his way. He remonstrated with the chair umpire about line calls and challenges, ironically telling the umpire to “focus” before losing all focus himself, dropping his serve immediately after. 2nd seed Novak Djokovic (SRB) breezed past Adam Pavlasek (CZE) 6-2 6-2 6-1 without breaking a sweat and will be surprised to see that his next opponent is not Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG). The 29th seed crashed out of the tournament in straight sets 6-4 6-4 7-6 to world number 589 Ernests Gulbis (LAT) who is also coming back from injury.
