Number 1 seed Angelique Kerber (GER) faced a tough challenge if she was to progress into the quarters past 14th seed and former finalist Garbine Muguruza (ESP). Muguruza, who is being guided by former champion and legend Conchita Martinez, has found form in this tournament. The 5th Day at Wimbledon 2017 Ladies’ Singles Draw

Again the ladies showed the gentlemen how to put on a show. Home talent Heather Watson (GBR) and returning former semi-finalist Victoria Azarenka (BLR) left it all on court in a 3 set battle of highs and lows. Watson stormed the first set 6-3, and in a closer fought second set than the score suggested, Azarenka took it 6-1.
